Vicarious Stress in wake of Katrina

On collegenews.org is a short article discussing the likely aftermath of Katrina. Amongst these is those of Vicarious Trauma or stress: Katrina's Psychological Health Effects Will Be Long-Term, IWU Professor Says

New research also points to vicarious stress among people with no tangible connection to a tragedy, who experience the emotional nature of the news coverage and knowledge that others are suffering.
Well there's not that much that is new about vicarious traumitization. Just look at the accounts of doctors or carers who dealt with the people who survived the Holocaust. Many of these carers suffered deep traumitization through imagining the events they heard. This is something I'll have to get back to and deal in more detail.
